Bilgola Beach is about 40 mins drive north of Sydney in an area known simply as the Northern Beaches. It is an idyllic spot with golden sand and an ocean that looks innocent and blue. There are of course ocean rips and sandbars that create “dumpers” for the unwary ocean paddler. The safe option is the beautiful ocean pool cut out of the rock platform below the steep cliffs. Here swimmers tumble turn and plough through the rippling saltwater completing their 50 metre laps with a backdrop of blue ocean, green and gold rock platforms and a hillside populated with luxury homes.
